EQ Perspectives in Burr Ridge, IL is a comprehensive mental health center offering multi-levels of care to help you on life’s journey.
EQ Perspectives delivers partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) to young people 12-18 years old with severe mental health problems.
We diagnose and treat depression, anxiety, mood disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), personality disorders, and substance use disorders.
The team takes an integrative approach, using traditional treatments like medication management while emphasizing emotional intelligence development. They recognize that life can be challenging, stressful, and often unfair, and trying to manage while struggling with mental illness is a demanding challenge.
The EQ Perspectives team evaluate the physical, relational, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional aspects of patients’ lives to identify imbalances. They use treatments like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and medication management. GeneSight® testing supports more accurate prescribing using information from their patients’ DNA.
The team supports people through life’s ups and downs with accessible mental health services, assisting patients who can’t make it to the clinic for in-person appointments.

Meet Bethany Potempa, PMHNP
Bethany Potempa, PMHNP, is a dedicated board-certified Psychiatrist and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specializing in the treatment of adults and children ages 12 and older. With a passion for providing personalized and comprehensive care, Bethany brings her expertise to EQ Perspectives in Burr Ridge, Illinois.
With a background in Nursing from Loyola University and a Master’s in Nursing and Psychiatric Mental Health from the University of St. Francis, Bethany possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in mental health care. She has spent many years working in various treatment settings, including residential and partial hospitalization programs (PHP), offering support to individuals across all levels of care.
Bethany believes in the power of compassionate listening and understanding the stories behind behaviors to provide effective care. She is deeply committed to generating awareness about mental health issues, behavioral challenges, and eating disorders, working tirelessly to support her patients on their journey to recovery and change.
Bethany offers both in-person and telehealth appointments, ensuring that mental health care is accessible to all who need it. Patients can trust that they will receive timely support under her care.

When I work with a client, I build a safe, trusting space. You will be your own expert, of your story. I will treat you as a whole, your symptoms, family dynamics, your qualities, strengths and your dreams. I want to learn about your journey and help you move forward to the next phase. We will work as a collaborative team to explore, self-reflect and discover a new awareness of ourselves. We will focus on your strengths, journeys, values, morals, and dreams. I work with the whole person when treating them, I will guide you to feelings of happiness, joy, and fulfillment. With my social work degree, I also bring in the family dynamics/system into treatment. I work with relationship issues, feelings of disconnect, and communication. My modalities, for treatment are DBT, CBT, Gotman, and I am also EMDR trained.

I am deeply committed to providing a safe and empathetic space for individuals on their journey towards healing and growth. Everyone has their own story, and I strive to ensure that my clients feel heard as they share theirs with me.
I have worked in a variety of clinical settings with both adults and adolescents. With a compassionate approach, I specialize in working with those grappling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and substance use disorders, and self-esteem issues. My therapeutic style integrates Person-Centered Therapy, allowing clients to lead the way in their healing process. I also incorporate elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients and provide them with the tools they need to overcome challenges.
My goal as a therapist is to foster a supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to create positive change in their lives.

I provide therapy for adults and adolescents wanting to explore concerns and issues including but not limited to anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, trauma, panic disorder, life transitions, and grief and loss. I am passionate about my profession and consider it a privilege to be a part of your life’s journey. Good counselors evolve. Sometimes a person’s story requires our capacity to adapt and change direction in the moment. I strive to tailor care plans to the unique circumstance of your life.
My diverse experience, especially in working with individuals facing severe mental illness in the community, has instilled in me the belief that everyone has a story worth telling and deserves an opportunity to heal. As a professional with ten years of experience, I have worked with many individuals, groups, and families.
I see counseling as a profound gift we offer ourselves. My aim as a therapist is to empower my clients to lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. Therapy is a chance to overcome barriers that have impeded our ability to be a better version of ourselves. Navigating life’s ever-changing challenges alone can be daunting.
Samantha Nolan, LCPC

Samantha (Sam) Nolan is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Edinboro University. Her previous experience includes working with individuals and groups in community agencies and private practice, and offering both group and individual art therapy sessions.
Sam specializes in art therapy, a hands-on approach to therapy that offers a unique way to process emotions, reduce anxiety, and cultivate emotional resilience. Art therapy is a unique approach to therapy that allows individuals to communicate their thoughts and feelings through interventions like drawing, painting, and collage making, which may be difficult to verbalize.
In combination with art therapy, she utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused approach, an individualized process that helps clients meet their specific goals by changing thoughts, beliefs, and actions from this point forward. She believes that a committed therapeutic relationship is essential for success, and aims to create a space where clients feel valued, respected, and confident to take on life’s challenges.
